The production process of seamless steel pipes mainly includes the following steps:
Raw Material Preparation:The raw material is mainly steel plate or strip, and its quality has a crucial impact on the final quality of the seamless steel pipe. Therefore,it is necessary to carefully inspect the surface quality, chemical composition, and mechanical properties of the raw material.
Heating and Piercing:The raw material is heated to a certain temperature(e.g.,1,300°C)to soften it and make it easier to shape.
A piercing mill is used to pierce the heated raw material, forming a hollow,thick-walled tube.During the piercing process, the raw material rotates and advances continuously to ensure a smooth inner wall of the formed tube.
Hot Rolling or Cold Rolling:
Hot Rolling:The tube is rolled using a hot rolling mill, gradually thinning the wall thickness through multiple rolling passes to form a rough tube close to the finished size.During hot rolling, parameters such as heating temperature and rolling speed need to be strictly controlled to prevent material performance degradation or cracking.
Cold Rolling:For products requiring higher dimensional accuracy and surface quality, cold rolling can be used.Cold rolling is typically performed on a two-roll mill, achieving the desired dimensions and surface quality through multiple rolling passes.
Cold drawing:Cold drawing involves stretching seamless steel pipes at room temperature to further reduce their outer diameter and wall thickness.During cold drawing, the drawing speed and reduction rate must be controlled to prevent internal cracking.
Finishing and heat treatment:Finishing processes include trimming, deburring, straightening, pickling, cold treatment, and heat treatment.During pickling, care must be taken to prevent over-acid corrosion of the steel pipe surface;heat treatment is used to eliminate residual stress, improve microstructure, and enhance mechanical properties.
Inspection and warehousing:Finally,a comprehensive quality inspection of the seamless steel pipes is conducted using ultrasonic testing, eddy current testing, and hardness testing to ensure product compliance with standards. After passing inspection, the steel pipes are labeled, cataloged according to specifications, and placed in the warehouse.
Precautions:Heating temperature control:During hot rolling, the heating temperature must be strictly controlled.Excessive heat may lead to a decline in material properties, while insufficient heat makes shaping difficult.
Rolling and Cold Drawing Speed:Excessive speed during rolling and cold drawing can cause internal cracks in the steel pipe, while insufficient speed leads to low efficiency.
Pickling Treatment:The pickling step in the finishing process must prevent over-acid corrosion of the steel pipe surface.
Heat Treatment Uniformity:The heat treatment process must be uniform to ensure the mechanical properties of the steel pipe.
Quality Inspection:Strict quality inspection should be conducted after each process to promptly identify and resolve any potential problems.
In conclusion, the production of seamless steel pipes is a comprehensive project requiring precise operation and strict quality control.By following correct production processes and precautions,high-quality seamless steel pipe products can be produced.
