Welded reducers, also known as butt-welding reducers, are key diameter-varying connectors in pipeline systems.Connected by butt welding to join pipes of different diameters, they ensure a smooth transition for fluid passages and are widely used in industries such as petrochemicals, electric power, municipal water supply and drainage, and more. They fall into two main categories:concentric reducers and eccentric reducers.Concentric reducers feature coincident axes, making them suitable for gas pipelines and vertical liquid pipelines, minimizing turbulence and pressure loss.Eccentric reducers have one flat side and are mostly used in horizontal pipelines to prevent air or liquid pockets and ensure stable system operation.
In terms of materials, welded reducers are mainly made of carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, etc.,which can be flexibly selected according to medium characteristics, temperature and pressure conditions. For instance,304/316 stainless steel is ideal for highly corrosive environments, while carbon steel balances cost and high-pressure service requirements.Manufactured in strict compliance with international standards such as ASME B16.9 and ASTM A234,they guarantee dimensional accuracy, uniform wall thickness and excellent weldability.TIG/argon arc welding is commonly adopted, and post-weld heat treatment is required for some working conditions to eliminate residual stress and restore corrosion resistance.
Their core advantages are outstanding:the welded connection forms a permanent sealing structure, completely eliminating the risk of leakage at pipe joints;the smooth tapered inner surface reduces fluid resistance, lowering energy consumption and pipe erosion;the integrated structure features high rigidity, resisting stress caused by vibration and thermal expansion and contraction, thus extending the service life of the pipeline system.
In practical applications, welded reducers realize gradual diameter changes to optimize flow velocity in long-distance oil and gas pipelines;adapt to different equipment interfaces in chemical plant process pipelines;ensure stable delivery of high-temperature and high-pressure steam in power plant steam pipelines;and connect main pipes and branch pipes in municipal pipe networks.Type and material shall be determined based on medium, pressure, temperature and installation position during selection, and non-destructive testing shall be carried out after installation to ensure welding quality, providing efficient, safe and reliable diameter-varying solutions for various complex pipeline systems.
