A reducer is a common pipe fitting used to connect two pipes of different nominal diameters, also widely known as a pipe reducing coupling or simply reducer coupling.
Its main function is to gradually change the pipe size in a piping system, allowing smooth transition from a larger diameter pipe to a smaller one,or vice versa.
Main Types
Concentric Reducer
The center lines of both ends are aligned. It provides uniform flow and is typically used in vertical pipelines or horizontal lines where balanced flow is required.
Eccentric Reducer
One side of the pipe wall remains flat(parallel),preventing air or vapor pockets from forming. It is widely used in horizontal liquid pipelines to avoid cavitation and gas accumulation.
Materials&Applications
Available in carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel,PVC,copper, and other materials, reducers are widely applied in plumbing, oil and gas, petrochemical, water treatment,HVAC,and industrial process piping systems.
